Rome, Sept. 12. On Sunday last the Pope, attended by the
Cardinals, went to the Church of St. Mary, where Te Deum was
sung for the signal victory obtain'd by Prince Eugene of
Savoy over the infidels [the Turks first on 5 Aug at
Peterwardein, then 16 Aug. at Belgrade in War with Austria],
and after the same was over, the Pope, sitting on his
throne, was presented by Cardinal Schrottenbach with two
standards and two horse tails, sent to his Holiness by the
Emperor, which were exposed to the view of the people. They
rung all the bells of this city on this occasion, and the
great guns of the Castle St. Angelo were several times
discharged. There were at night illuminations and other
extraordinary rejoycings upon this great advantage obtained
by the Christians,. . . [20 lines]
