Hague, Feb. 26. The last advices from Spain say, . . . [9
lines] The Duke of Popoli, who commands the Spanish forces
under him [the viceroy of Valencia], was in hopes to recover
that city in his absence, and in order thereunto sent by a
trumpeter a very obliging letter to the inhabitants,

some new priviledges, if they would quit the interest of
King Charles; but they sent back the trumpeter with a
scornful answer, and signified, that if they sent them any
more such messages they would hang the messengers. . . [6
