Last Wednesday being the anniversary of St. John the
Evangelist, the same was celebrated here by the Ancient
Grand Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons of this
Commonwealth, together with St. Andrew's, Massachusetts, and
Friendship Lodges under their jurisdiction, in this town.
The procession began from Masons Hall about 12 o'clock, with
a band of musick in front; from thence they proceeded to
Trinity Church, where an elegant charge was delivered to the
brethren by Col. Keith--(after which a handsome collection
was made for the poor of the town, and deposited into the
hands of the overseers); from thence they proceeded back to
the hall, where an elegant entertainment was provided for as
many as could possibly be accommodated. The Lodge of
Massachusetts retired to the Bunch of Grapes Tavern, where
an elegant entertainment was also provided for them. The
whole was conducted with that decency and propriety,
peculiar to the antient craft.
