Boston. . . Friday last being the anniversary of his
Majesty's birth day, when he enter'd the 36th year of his
age, the same was observed here in the following order. In
the forenoon the troop commanded by Col. Phipps;--the
Company of Cadets, commanded by Col. Hancock, with their
band of musick;--the militia of the town, commanded by Col.
Erving with the train of artillery, commanded by Major
Paddock, --and the Company of Grenadiers, commanded by Major
Dawes, belonging to the regiment, with their bands of
musick, mustered and form'd into a regiment in the Common,
when the militia went through their exercise to admiration!
From thence, at one o'clock, the regiment march'd into King
Street, when they again went through the exercise and
firings to the approbation of many thousand spectators, and
about three o'clock were dismiss'd. The officers of the
regiment, with the non-commissioned officers, din'd at the
Royal-Exchange Tavern--The Company of Cadets, at the Bunch
of Grapes--The Artillery Company, at the British
Coffee-House--and the Grenadier Company, at Major Dawes's;
at which several places many loyal toasts were drank. The
bands of musick belonging to the regiment and cadets, and
Major Paddock's fifes and drums, after dinner, were in the
balconies in King-Street, and alternately play'd a great
variety of tunes, before a vast number of spectators. After
which the train of artillery went with their cannon into the
Common, to fire at a target, and made many excellent
shot.----The regiment was review'd in the Common, to fire at
a target, and made many excellent shot.----The regiment was
review'd in the Common before thousands of spectators.
The Honorable House of Representatives, on the occasion,
met at the Court-House at five o'clock, and drank his
Majesty's, and many other loyal and patriotick toasts.
The evening concluded with the playing off sundry
fireworks, without any tumult or riot, to the very great
mortification of the heads of the Tory faction.
