30 Dec 1765:21,22 (561 Supplement)
Messieurs Printers. Looking over Shakespear Henry VIII, I
felt a surge of pleasure in reading one of the scenes, which
I thought particularly adapted to the present circumstances
of our most gracious Sovereign's American subjects. As it
is part of the English history, and shews the success of the
people's application for relief from a burdensome tax, or
"trembling contribution" to a Monarch to all respects much
inferior to Him, who now fills the British throne, it may be
agreeable to your readers, to have it inserted in your
Gazette. [signed] Yours, A. B.
Scene IV.
. . . [1 1/3 columns of dialog between the King, Queen,
Norfolk, Wolsey on burdensome taxes]
