We learn from Capt. Hertell who arrived last Tuesday from
Georgia, that on August 28. 30 Indians were sent from
Frederica, to Florida. . . [20 lines] The officers drew up
the party, and they engaged at a distance for some time on
the beach, till some of the horse being wounded, they fell
into disorder, & the Indians pressing upon them, put them to
flight; they pursued 'em several miles thro' the tickets &
of the beach; they kill'd in the pursuit, a trumpeter, 8
men, & 7 horses, and took one man prisoner; they also took
two horses. After they had entirely routed the Spaniards,
they went to their camping place, and found some jugs of
rum, which they carried to the boats, with seven horses, a
trumpet, the bridles and saddles belonging to the men whom
they had killed or taken;. . .
[9 lines] The party of horse, as the three prisoners say,
consisted of a captain, an ensign, a trumpeter, & 30 men;
they had march'd to St. John's, but the boats firing on
them, they retreated.
