Col. Trenck's letter to Field-Marshal Ghilani.  Old Brisac,
August 6.
In obedience to the orders of his Royal Highness Prince
Charles of Lorrain, I passed the Rhine very happily about
ten last night, in the face of the enemy, with about 130
men; when, after a very short rennance, I forced the enemy
from three of their posts on the banks of the river. . .

On this occasion I have taken a standard, and a rich
trumpeter's coat, which I must desire you to send Prince
Charles.  I am, &c. Trenck. 
  Florence, July 23.  M. Grimaud, the Governour of Messina,
write word, that only 50 men of his garrison remain'd, which
consisted of 1500; and that he had caus'd a party to go
thro' the street, beating their drums to engage the
inhabitants to shew themselves at their windows, but very
