New-York. . . October, 30. This being the anniversary of
his Majesty's birth-day, the same was observed here with the
usual solemnity: . . . [7 lines] The small pox beginning
to spread in town, his Honour (to prevent the spreading of
it in the fort) gave in the evening, a magnificent ball at
the house of Mr. Robert Todd of this city, where there was
the most numerous and gay appearance of gentlemen and
ladies, and the most splendid entertainment that has been
known here, for many years. The night concluded with
illuminations, and all other publick demonstrations of joy.
