Paris, March 16. Letters from Naples of the 19th past
advise, that the carnival was open'd there the 14th with
extraordinary magnificence, whether we consider the shining
ornaments of the hall, or the richness of the habits wore at
the ball, or marsquerade. The King danced with a Roman
habit of a rose colour curiously laced with white. As soon
as he appeared the band of musick, consisting of 52 hands in
two bodies, sounded their instruments: Their cloathing from
head to foot was of a rose colour. His Majesty opened the
ball with the Marchionis de Solera, who afterwards took the
French ambassador for her partner. The country dances
continued till morning.
