Rome, Jan. 19. 1735. Sir, Last night about five o'clock in
the evening, the Chevalier de St. George's [James Stuart,
1688-1766] consort [Clementina Sobieski] departed this life.
She was born at Oblaw in Silesea, on the 17th of July 1701.
Her parents were James Lewis Sobieski, eldest son to King
John of Poland . . . and Elizabeth of Newbourg, sister to
the late Empress, the late Queen of Portugual, the Queen
Dowager of Spain, and the old Dutchess of Parma; so that
this Princess was nearly related to several of the greatest
houses in Europe. . . [10 lines describing her] This court
has paid her all imaginable respect, operas, and other
diversions, have been suspended, as well as the
illuminations, and other rejoycings, on the promotion of a
new cardinal. . . [4 lines] Her funeral we hear is to be
solemnized on the same model of what was done for Christina,
Queen of Sweden, but with some additional honours, for
reasons too obvious to need being mentioned. . . [3 more
lines]
