Location Southampton
Citation
BG.733.016
14-21 May 1733:21 (698)
[Will of Richard Norton, of Southwick in the county of
Southampton: very rich man; very elaborate will (takes up
the better part of the preceding issue, as well as pp. 1 and
half of p. 2 of this issue), elaborate instructions, much
going to poor and infirmed; in describing the actual
burial, he wanted to be buried in a lead coffin, 10 feet
down, and at the service:]
I have said I would have no pomp. . . and I earnestly wish
that our anthem out of the 100th Psalm, with every verse and
chorus, might be sung or read during the burial office; the
very same verses as are in the anthem; and no other or more
of the Psalm: and I will have no other part of the service
to be performed, remember this, but only the burial office.
