Newport, Rhode Island, Octob. 11.  Thomas Hammett, under
sentence of death for the murder of Kathrine Cook, found
means to get off his irons; and yesterday towards night, his
wife and child going to visit him,. . . [he made his escape
in disguise with his wife's clothes and bonnet.  7 lines up
from bottom of para.]  Upon which notice was given by beat
of drum in the town, and the sheriff, with several officers
of the militia, rode out. . .
