Hanover, October 14. 1727. On the 12th instant the
coronation of the King and Queen of Great Britain was
celebrated in the following manner. . .
4. After his Royal Highness received the compliments, he
sat down to table, which was signified by the sound of 12
trumpets and a kettle drum.
6. As soon as the second table was regulated, the table
musick began to play some fine pieces, composed, suitable to
the occasion, by the Heer Venturini.[*]
7. After dinner, there was a comedy performed, which lasted
about an hour.
8. After the comedy, the Prince of Wales went without the
Cleves Gate, to see the fire-works which were erected on the
counterscarp.
9. His Royal Highness afterwards pass'd thro' the city, to
see the illuminations, which in some houses were very
curious. And he was so well pleased with the devices and
illuminations of several particular persons, that he ordered
an account to be taken of them to send to the court of Great
Britain. The burghers of the new city not only illuminated
Mount Parnassus, but also played off divers fine fireworks
as the court passed by there. There were several trumpets
and kittle drums on the Tower, and the gallery of the New
Church, as also on the Old Church. The Jews also signalized
themselves on this occasion, having illuminated their
synagogue, and played on all sorts of musical instruments,
besides kettle drums and trumpets.
10. After this there was a ball at court till about 10
o'clock, when his Royal Highness sat down again to table in
the Great Hall of the Castle, where were two large tables
and some others, for the foreign lords and ladies who were
present. After the supper the ball was renew'd and the whole
concluded with it.
