From the Flying Post May 8. 1725. . . The general
expectation of an order to be revived, call'd, The Knights
of the Bath, makes it very probable that a short account of
it will not be unacceptable to such as have not curiosity or
leisure to run over the tedious, tho' accurate history,
which is given of it by that learned antiquary Mr. Anstis. .
. [6 lines] and the author reports the following, among
the other ceremonies that were us'd at the creation of
Knights of the Bath, by King Henry the First. . . [1 para.]
2. He was to be shav'd at night, and to have his hair cut
around. Then the King commanded his chamberlain attended by
knights and esquires, to go to his chamber with musick and
dancing, and to inform him of feats of chivalry. . . [3
paras.]
6. Then they mounted a horseback, and conducted him to the
hall with music, and a young esquire carry'd his sword
before him, holding it by the point. . . [6 more paras.]
