Venice, August 28. . . [Re. election of new doge and
celebrations. 13 lines up from bottom:]
On Wednesday morning His Serenity accompanied by the Senate
in a body went to St. Mark's Church, where solemn Mass was
celebrated with a Te Deum sung by the Patriarch, while the
trumpets sounded and the great guns were discharged from all
the ships at anchor before the square of St. Mark. There
was a great ball upon this occasion at the Ducal Palace, and
very splendid collations 3 nights successively ; and there
were very fine fire-works let off in the square of St. Mark,
and before the palaces of all his serenity's noble kindred.
