London, August 17. Last Wednesday Mr. Aaron Cornel, and
Madam Rebecca Cornel, cousins, and Portuguese Jews, of the
tribe of Judah, who were married in the sinagogue ; The
ceremonies that were used on that occasion, are too numerous
to be all inserted here, only we are informed that the
rituals between the tribes of Judah and Benjamin, are as
different from one another, as the Church of England differs
from the Dissenters. The morning before they were married,
was spent in dancing and other decent diversions, after
which the bride being nicely combed and her head dressed,
she was brought to the bridegroom, and was carried three
times roundabout him; this done they drank several times,
and at last flung their glasses to the ground; presently
after the bride & her  assistants seemed to be all in tears;
the priest having pronounced the blessing all in Hebrew, put
on the rings on the fingers of the married couple.
Afterwards they proceeded to Leather-Sellers-Hall, being
accompany'd by abundance of Jews of both sexes and of the
best fashion. The place within & without was thronged by a
multitude of Christians, among them a great many noblemen
and their ladies, who had the curiosity to see Aaron and
Rebecca, who were seated under a canopy of red damask; There
was plenty of sweet meats, cakes, and the richest wines; the
favours that were distributed had on them this motton, it is
God's command; They have hired the hall for 7 days in order
to receive visits; and 'tis said next Monday their Royal
Highnesses will have the curiosity to view this formality,
which is not practised in Portugal and other Christian
nations.
