Providence, Octob. 29. On Thursday the Governor's Company
of Cadets, under the command of Colonel Nightingale,
appeared in their uniforms. At nine o'clock in the morning
they escorted his honour the governor, the deputy-governor.
. . to the court house, from whence they proceeded to the
College Green, where they preformed [sic] the manual
exercise, and different manoeuvres, At half after twelve
they returned to the Court-House, and escorted his honour
the governor, the deputy governor, and gentlemen above
mentioned, as also the members of the Lower House of
Assembly, a number of the clergy, &c. to Mr. Hacker's Hall,
where an elegant entertainment was given by the gentlemen of
the Cadet Company. During the procession a number of field
pieces were fired, and after dinner, the following loyal and
patriotic toasts were drunk, viz. [32 in all]. . .
About three o'clock the procession again moved, and was
escorted to the College Green, where the company went
through the exercise, manoeuvres and firings, with the
greatest precision and very justly gained the applause of a
great concourse of spectators. The evening was concluded
with a ball.
