Portsmouth, New-Hampshire, Jan.24. On Monday his Excellency
Governor Wentworth and lady, gave a grand and elegant ball
at the new assembly room, to the ladies and gentlemen of the
town; at which were present also, the officers of his
Majesty's ships Swan & Canceaux, and a number of strangers
then in town. The splender and brilliancy of the ladies, the
grandeur & elegance of the room, and the harmony & festivity
which reigned among the numerous joyful guests, all
conspired to give this entertainment the preference to any
of the kind ever before given in this province.
