Charlestown, South-Carolina, Oct. 4. Saturday last a number
of the principal mechanicks of this town assembled in order
to fix upon six gentlemen to represent them in the ensuing
assembly, which being concluded upon, they removed to a
large white Oak Tree adjoining Christo, Gladsden's pasture,
which they consecrated by the name of Liberty Tree; when the
celebrated Liberty Song was sung; and at dark the tree was
ornamented with 45 lights and fireworks played off, and
suitable toasts given by the gentleman who was chosen
