News from New-York. From Elizabeth-Town, New-Jersey, we
hear, that some officers of the 28th regiment quartered in
that place, having been sued for debt, had conceiv'd a pique
against the under-sheriff, and being to embark on Tuesday,
they the evening before raised their spirits with strong
drink, and about one in the morning, they began an attack on
the court-house, where the sheriff lived, broke the windows,
and endeavored to force open the door, the sheriff thereupon
rang the bell to alarm the inhabitants, many of them came to
his assistance. . . [10 more lines]
