Wednesday last the Rev. Mr. Simeon Howard, A.M. was ordained
to the pastoral office of the West Church in this town,
whereof the late Rev. Jonathan Mayhew, D.D. was pastor. An
anthem, entitled David's Elegy on Jonathan, was sung at the
opening the solemnity; after which a prayer was made by the
Rev. Mr. Perkins of Bridgwater; a sermon was then preached
by the Rev. Dr. Chauncy, from those words in Acts XVII.2,3.
. . [5 lines] At the laying on of hands, the Rev. Mr. Gay,
of Hingham, prayed and gave the charge. The Rev. Mr.
Appleton, of Cambridge, gave the right hand of fellowship;
and the Rev. Mr. Mather, of this town, made the concluding
prayer; and the whole closed with an anthem for the peace of
