New-York, May 22. On Tuesday afternoon an express arrived
here from Boston with the first advice of the repeal of the
Stamp act; and about two hours after another express came in
from Philadelphia. . . On the arrival of this delightful,
tho' long expected news, a sudden joy was immediately
diffused thro' all ranks of people in the whole city,
neighbors ran to congratulate each other, and all the bells
in town set to ringing, which continued till late at night,
and began again next morning (yesterday) continuing till 9
o'clock.
