There were the greatest rejoicings possible in the city of
London, by all ranks of people on the total repeal of the
Stamp Act,---the ships in the river displayed all their
colours, illuminations and bonfires in many parts.--In
short, the rejoicings were as great as were ever known on
any occasion. . .
It is impossible to express the joy that appeared in the
town upon receiving certain intelligence by Capt. Coffin of
the repeal of the Stamp Act, the bells were immediately set
a ringing, and in the evening there were bonfires,
fireworks, &c.----And this day is appointed by the Select
Men to be a day of general rejoicing here;-- the morning was
usher'd in by the ringing of all the bells in town, firing
of guns, &c. and in the evening the whole town is to be
illuminated. . .
