London, August 2.  They write from Dublin, that a desperate
wretch who had inlisted in one of the regiments on duty
there, chopp'd off his right thumb at a butcher's block, in
order to get his discharge; which he got by receiving 500
lashes, and was drumm'd out of the barracks with a halter
about his neck.
