Compeigne, July 22. On the day that Te Deum was sung in the
King's Chapel for the taking of Fort St. Philip, all the
houses in Paris were illuminated, and the Duke de Gesavres,
Governor of the Isle of France, ordered wine and eatables to
be distributed among the populace during the whole night.
The Marchioness de Pompadour gave, on this occasion, an
entertainment at her house without the city, at which the
King did her the honour to assist. Before supper some fine
fireworks were play'd off, which were followed by a very
elegant illumination.
