London. . . Apr 3. Thursday night, the 25th ult. in
consequence of an information sent to John Fielding and
Saunders Welch, Esqrs. nine notorious sharpers were taken
from the E.O. table in the assembly in the Hay-Market, most
of they dressed in rich cloaths and swords, hired in
Monmouth-street: among them was a fidler, formerly a
tapster, dressed in rich silver tissue; a broken publican,
in brown and silver; a sausage-merchant in cut velvet; a
journeyman founder, in blue and silver; and several others
in black. They were all re-examined before the above
magistrates, and, for want of sureties, committed to prison,
according to the statute. [A prison is a poor place for
such fine cloaths.]
We are very well assured that no more E.O. tables will be
permitted at any future assemblies, nor any other play
except cards, at which all persons are obliged to unmask.
Apr 5. Saturday last the merchants in the Barbados
trade, gave a very elegant entertainment at Pontac's, to
Governor Pinfold, who is shortly to embark for the
government of that island.
