Paris, Aug. 31. . . [8th line] On Tuesday last his Majesty
sent orders to the Archbishop to have Te Deum sung, on
Thursday the 29th instant, in thanksgiving for the safe
delivery of Madame le Dauphine, and for the birth of the
Duke de Berry, at night the whole town was illuminated, the
cannons fired at the Bastile, Greve and-Invalides, attended
by the finest fireworks that ever were seen; several
thousands of hogsheads of wine were given to the common
people, with rolls and polonies: in fine, there is nothing
but joy and contentment in the face of every one; and what
adds to the rest is, the plentifullest harvest that ever was
known, and wine in great abundance. . .
