[London]. . . Apr 16. We hear that the ladies who have
tickets for the oratorio of Messiah, at the Foundling
Hospital on Thursday next, intend to go in small hoops, and
the gentlemen without swords, to make their seats more
convenient to themselves. [And if our ladies would please
to take a reef in their enormous hoops, if it were only a
few yards, it might prevent many a sore shin, and serve them
the trouble of peeking their missens when they enter a door,
&c. But if they should obstinately adhere to the present
mode, as 'tis probable they will, then they are advised to
take care that their stockings are clean and whole, some
defects therein having been lately discovered by our peering
sparks.]
