[London] March 12. . . His Lordship to inforce the serious
consideration of this warning, takes notice of the general
corruption of the times: ' While I was writing this, says
he, I cast my eye upon the news-paper of the day, and
counted no less than fifteen advertisements for plays,
opera's, musick and dancing, for meetings at gardens for
cock-fighting, prize fighting, &c. Should this paper go
abroad, what an idea must it give to the churches there, of
the manner in which Lent is kept in this Protestant country
?'
