Montrose, Apr 30. Upon receiving the joyful news of the
Prince of Orange's being made Stadtholder of the united
provinces, (an event of great importance, and big, we hope
with much happiness and many blessings to Great Britain and
her allies) the magistrates resolved to give public
demonstration of their inward joy and satisfaction in this
turn of affairs, and accordingly the great flag was
display'd, the bells began to ring, &c. and at five in the
evening, the magistrates and council met at the house of
David Doig of Cookston Esq; present Provost, and being
join'd by Captain Lyder Commandant, and the other officers
of his corps, and some loyal gentlemen, who came on purpose
from the country, they walked in procession, (the whole
company with orange cockades in their hats) to the town-
house, where a great many healths were drunk, under a
tripple discharge of small arms, by a party of Major General
Skelton's Regiment: And the night concluded with all
demonstrations of joy.
