A letter from Stockholm dated July 5. N.S. . . Yesterday
the King, attended by the senate, went to the great hall
where the states were sitting, and there Duke Frederick
Adolphus, Bishop of Lubeck, and administrator of the Dutchy
of Holstein-Gottorp, was unanimously elected successor to
the crown, and immediately after proclaimed by sound of
trumpets, kettle-drums, &c. The order of the peasants were
with great difficulty prevailed upon to drop the Prince
Royal of Denmark; but at last they chimed in with the other
orders in consideration of the great concessions made by
Russia. the same day his Majesty sent to Abo the
ratification of the preliminary articles signed there, in
order to be exchanged.
