Hanau, July 3. On the 28th of last month, the next day
after the battle near Dettingen, my Lord Stair sent to
acquaint Marshal Noailles by a trumpet. 'That his
Britannick Majesty thought proper to cause his army to march
towards Hanau: That an independent company was left in the
field of battle to take care of the wounded and the slain:
That the said company was strictly forbid to commit the
least hostility: That the Marshal might send a detachment
to bury those of his men who were dead; and that he did not
doubt but all proper care would be taken of he wounded, who
thro' necessity, they were obliged to leave behind them.'
The answer given thereto, and the orders issued thereupon,
where such as Lord Stair had reason to expect from Marshal
Noailles.
