[London] March 28. By the Right Worshipful the Grand
Master, Grand Officers, Stewards and Brethren of the Scald
Miserable Masons.
A MANIFESTO.
. . . Quato, Because we have heard it insinuated, that our
discontinuing the annual procession was urged as a proof of
our non existence; or, at least, was a tacit resignation of
right of eldership to our younger-brothers, the Free Masons.
Wherefore, we have at this time thought fit, according to
the known constitutions of the above ancient lodges, to re-
assume our processional ceremony.
And that all whom it may concern may judge of the justness
of our pretensions, we have annexed a scheme of our
procession, and their cavalcade, and submit to the public,
which was most becoming the dignity and solemnity of so
Ancient and so Venerable a Society.
Procession of the Scald Miserable Masons.
Two sackbutts, vulgarly call'd cow's horns, in liveries.
As ass, in proper habiliments, led by two pages, in the
liveries and ribbons of the stewards colour; carrying a pair
of butter firkins, on which a youth in a neat attire beat,
with a pair of marrow-bones.
A destrous one legged man riding on an ass, and playing on
a tinkling cymbal, viz. a salt box.
The tyler, in a long robe or vestment, . . .
Three stewards in proper cloathing, with jewels and wands,
in a gutt cart, drawn by three asses beautifully adorned,
with ribbons and cockades. A postilion on the first, which
was led by two pages. . . [4 paras.]
This grand and illustrious procession, was finish'd by
vast numbers of different instruments, which all together
composed a delectable symphony of rough musick.
The +- mark of the right worshipful Poney Grand-master.
