[Europe] July 3. They advise from Cassel of the 29th past,
that the Princes William and Frederick, accompanied by the
Prince and Princess of Orange, the Princess of Hesse and the
Princes Maximilian, George, &c. set out the Monday before
Amelienthal to welcome Princess Mary of Great Britain, who,
at this ceremony tenderly embraced her sister the Princess
of Orange, and presented to Prince Frederick her consort,
the said Princess, the gentlemen and ladies of her retinue,
the day before being appointed for her publick entry into
that city, which was performed about four in the afternoon,
with great magnificence, and an incredible concourse, and
the shouts of the populace; she was on her arrival at the
palace, immediately conducted into an apartment, where a
crown was put on her head, and having put on wedding
apparel, was convey'd by six ladies of the court into a
large saloon, where she was receiv'd by Prince William and
the Prince of Orange, and conducted to the chamber where the
marriage ceremony was performed by a Protestant divine; to
which succeeded a sumptuous supper, consisting of 600
dishes, besides the desert, but the Princely bride eat
little or nothing, tho' the meats were elegantly dress'd:
The illustrious company diverted themselves afterwards
(each with a burning taper in their hand) with a dance
through all the apartments to the bride's bedchamber, into
which, when she was in bed, they all enter'd to bid her
good-night: The next day, all the courtiers and persons of
distinction were presented to that Princess, having the
honour to kiss her hand.
