Yesterday morning, pursuant to mandatorial citations, for
that purpose hung up last week in the several stalls of the
Dean and Prebendaries, the Right Rev. Father in God, Dr.
Frederick Cornwallis, Bishop of Litchfield and Coventry, was
by the Dean and Chapter elected and chosen to be Archbishop
of the Cathedral and Metropolitan Church of Christ,
Canterbury; and the said election afterwards published in
the Choir of the said Church by the Dean from his stall,
whereupon Te Deum was solemnly sung, and, after the service
was over, a proxy appointed to attend and certify the said
election to his Majesty and the Archbishop elect.
