Newport, Isle of Wight, Apr 2. On the news of Mr.
Wilkes's being returned as a member of the county of
Middlesex, the genuine spirit of liberty appeared in this
town in full honours. . . [21 lines, toasts, etc.]
The ringers being genteely paid, and with the douceur of
forty-five quarts of good English beer, gave forty-five
fires on the bells; forty-five huzza's were shouted from the
tower, on which forty-five candles were lighted forty-five
minutes after one o'clock.
