London, October 2. A gentlemen of consequence has, very
obligingly, favoured us with the following particulars
relative to the death of his royal highness the duke of
York. His Royal Highness had danced rather overmuch at the
chateau of a person of fashion, and this had not only
fatigued him, but occasioned a very strong perspiration. As
soon as the ball was finished the Prince gave orders for his
carriages to be got ready immediately, to set off for
Toulon, from whence he was distant some three or four
leagues. . . [11 more lines describing concern of two
friends for the duke's health during a journey to Toulon] .
. . The next day his Royal Highness complained of a slight
chillness and shivering, but went at night to the comedy . .
. [1 1/2 column describing journey to Monaco, worsening of
the illness, and death of the duke.]
