Bristol [England], November 4. The colliers of Kingswood
were pleased last Thursday to shew a little more of their
ungovernable authority, by rising to a considerable number,
with fire-arms, clubs, &c. going from pit to pit,
threatening to stop up such of their brethren therein who
did not come up and join their number. . . [18 lines,
planned to rescue a ringleader from gaol.]
The report of this reaching the magistrates ears, both of
the city and county without for the Gloucester division, the
drums of Brigadier Harrison's regiment beat To Arms, and a
company appear'd presently before the council house, . . .
[2 lines, and] march'd by beat of drum without Lawford's
gate, and sentinels were immediately placed at the prison
door, and the rest of the company were planted opposite, in
the New Inn, under arms.
By one o'clock almost all the regiment by companies
follow'd by beat of drum, every soldier's piece being loaded
with a brace of balls . . .
