Portland made a grand entertainment at his seat at
Bulstrode, in the county of Bucks, where were present . . .

gentry walked round and drank out of [the garden bason], and
were succeeded by a concourse of people, who drank out of it
also, accompanied with French horns, loud huzza's and many
other acclamations of joy. The country people, who flocked
in great numbers, had tubs of punch carried out to them
without the front gate, where there were tables and benches
erected for that purpose; but had the honour of his Grace's
permission to be in the garden to see the illuminations and
