Warsaw, Oct. 26. Some days ago a trumpeter, belonging to
the Russian army, was conducted to the Polish camp at
Marienburg, but was blind-folded, that he might make no
observations: Being brought to the Palatine of Kiovia,
Regimentary of the Crown, he said, he had orders to demand
whether it was true, that the Russian and Saxon ministers
had been ill used; adding that if so, they would take
vengeance for it. . . [1/2 column on maneuvers, cannon
firings] and 'twas observ'd that it was a general volley of
the whole Russian army, and a triple discharge of 32 pieces
of cannon, from whence it 'twas concluded, that the
Confederates had proceeded that day to the election of
another King. This belief was confirmed next night, when
the church at Praage was observed to be wholly illuminated,
on account of the Te Deum sung therein, and some even
pretend they heard the sound of Vivat Rex.
According to advices from Grodno, the Russians have begun
to fortify the Castle there. The 2d instant the Russians
made publication by sound of trumpet in their army, that the
inhabitants should have nothing to fear with regard to their
being plundered, and that those who would bring provisions
to their camp might do it with safety, and be paid for the
same . . .
