Liverpool, Apr 13. The news we received by an express from
London, that the second reading of the excise-bill on
tobacco was postponed to the 12th of June, was very grateful
to all here, and we have testified it in the best manner we
can.  The day was spent in the ringing of bells, wearing of
gilt cockades. . . [7 lines]
  Letters from Ryegate say, that on the news of the excise
bill being put off, there were ringing of bells, bonfires,
and other demonstrations of joy.
  They write from Coventry, that . . . [6 lines, on the news
of the excise bill being put off, joy was demonstrated by]
ringing of bells, bonfires, illuminations, with the sound of
trumpets, drums and French horns, warming pans, and every
thing that would make a noise. . .
  It is written from Nottingham, . . . [3 lines] the bells
in all the churches began to ring, and continued so to do
all the day. . . [6 lines] The night concluded with ringing
of bells, . . . 
  Bristol, Apr 14. . . the bells of the steeple began to
sound their notes by two o'clock on Friday morning, and
continued all that day, evening, and are still repeating the
same. . .
