We're Moving!

We're moving a few miles down the road on September 12.

116 Pleasant St., Suite 345
Easthampton, MA 01027-2759
phone 413-203-5467 (same extensions)
fax 413-203-5471

There may be short delays in responding to sales orders, group service requests, membership questions, or general correspondence, September 7-14. Our website/email/phones will be up most of that time, but we do expect to be offline at some point while various bits are being reconnected. We ask for your patience as we get settled; thanks.

Join Us! Local Conversations, Survey, and Online Forum

The CDSS Transition Committee has started reaching out in many ways this summer, connecting with groups all across the US and Canada to give us ideas and input. We want your individual input as well, and hope you’ll take a few minutes to fill out our survey.

  • Community survey -- How can CDSS make dance and music more rewarding for you?
  • Online forum -- Interested in more in-depth discussion? Join our new discussion board.

And finally: we are thrilled with the work of Interim Executive Director, Marie Dalton-Meyer. She has enthusiastically visited two weeks at camp this summer, and is helping the transition team understand where resources are needed across the organization. (Check out Max's interview with Marie on our blog.)

Summer Fundraising Goal Reached

We exceeded our summer fundraising goal of $47,000. Many thanks to everyone who contributed to support scholarships and education programs. Our annual appeal is now underway -- we hope all of you will participate – your generosity is appreciated! You also can donate online.

CDSS Lifetime Contribution Award Update

The award celebration for Bob Dalsemer will be Saturday, December 10, 2011, in Brasstown, NC; details to follow.

New Printing of Members Directory

We plan to publish a printed Members Directory in January 2012. If you have changes to your name, address, phone or email, please update that information by October 15 via the Members Login, or via phone or email.

October 1 is the next deadline for CDSS grant applications. To apply for funding for music- or dance-related events/projects, refer to Grants & Support and/or contact Linda Henry. Those planning events or projects beyond the northeastern US are especially encouraged to apply.

Camp News

This past summer was terrific! Some photos already are on our website. And the new week, Harmony of Song and Dance, was fantastic; we'll be posting a video or two on our website or blog this fall.

New Publication: Don't Stop Calling

Don't Stop Calling: A Guide to Leading English Country Dances Classes for Older Adults
by Judy Chaves (CDSS, 2011)

One of our members, Judy Chaves, and her co-teacher, Val Medve, have been leading a weekly English dance class for residents at Wake Robin, a retirement community in Shelburne, VT for over six years. Judy and Val quickly realized that their long experience as English country dance teachers was only going to be partly applicable in this new venue and that they would need to develop new skills to teach those whose average age was 75. Not only dances, but also their goals, tempos, teaching styles, would have to be adapted. Now available in our Store.

New Youth Intern

We are delighted to have Mary Wesley, of Ferrisburgh, VT, join us as Youth Intern. She will be working on issues pertinent to international dance, music and song. I'll let her speak for herself:

Dear friends: I am thrilled to say hello to you as the new CDSS Youth Intern. As I settle into the position I will have lots to tell you about my ideas and projects. Look for my voice in the CDSS blog and updates on the "Youth Desk" soon. For right now I am tickled to have a brand new e-mail address: mary@cdss.org. Use it! I rely on you to be my eyes on the world of song and dance that we all share. Let me know what's happening in your community: What are your challenges? What's working well? What are you really excited about? The more I hear from you, the more energy and direction I will have to support your endeavors. I can't wait to chat with you! See you on the dance floor. -- Mary
