Swing the Next is Ted Sannella's second collection of squares, contras, triplets, and circles in the New England tradition, with music for each dance. Each dance is analyzed with Ted's special care, and for each he gives us "Dancing Tips" (a detailed explanation of the dance description), "Comments" (pointing out troublesome areas and suggestions for overcoming them), and "Background" (personal notes of a historical nature). The book also includes a thoughtful essay by Ted titled, Assessing Choreography, which gives his answer to the question: "With so many new dances, on what basis can a caller choose a good one?" The book concludes with a complete glossary of dance terms, a classification of the dances by level of difficulty, a discography, bibliography, list of sources, and index of tunes.
