Country Dance and Song Society2006 Scholarship Information |
We are pleased to be able to provide scholarship funds to those who might not otherwise be able to come to camp. We offer both work scholarships and what we call "named" scholarships. These named scholarships have been established to honor people who have made a significant contribution to country dance, music and song and to help support the education of future musicians and leaders by making camp accessible to people who might not otherwise afford to come.
Donations to the Scholarship Funds are needed and gratefully accepted. If you are able to help another person benefit from our programs, you can do so by making a contribution along with your registration. In addition, at each week of our summer camps, we hold auctions which raise money for future scholarships.
We also offer a one-to-one match of some scholarships sponsored by local groups. Information on these was sent to the CDSS member groups in January.
Work scholarships [Back to Top]
These scholarships entail approximately 90 minutes of work every day: at Pinewoods, as dishwasher helper; at Timber Ridge and Ogontz, the work includes assisting the Camp Director in various tasks. All campers age 14 and up are eligable for work scholarships.
Work scholarships reduce the camper fee by $155.
If you are applying only for a work scholarship, fill out only questions #1-4 on the Scholarship Application Form. There are also some jobs that give larger scholarships (see Camp Work Information). Most of these jobs are assigned by February, but you may inquire for this year and for future years by checking the appropriate line.
Named Scholarships [Back to Top]
Named Scholarships are available as well. Some are simply need based and some are for potential or practicing teachers, leaders, singers and musicians of English and American country dance and song. This aid is usually in addition to a work scholarship. If you are interested in applying for a named scholarship, answer all the questions on the Scholarship Application Form.
Click on the name to see more about the person and the fund.

Application Procedure [Back to Top]
Please note that camp applications must include a deposit to hold a space while scholarship applications are being considered. A full refund will be given if you must cancel due to insufficient aid.
To apply for a scholarship, fill out the Scholarship Application Form and return it to CDSS with your camp registration and deposit. Applications received by March 27 -- the registration processing and lottery date, will be processed first, and those applicants will be notified of their registration and scholarship status in early April. All funds may be assigned at that time, but later applications for scholarships will be considered if funds are still available.
