Program Description: [Back to Top]
Look up our Special Programs for some general information; here is more detail about this particular program and staff.

This is a course in English country dance music for musicians who are at least intermediate level -- familiar with your instrument and able to sight read simple melodies, even if you may be new to English dance tune repertoire and may have little or no experience playing for dances.

The course, held concurrently with English Dance Week at Pinewoods, will be led by Daron Douglas. Very familiar to camp attendees of the last years, Daron has a classical background and almost 20 years experience playing for English country dancing. She is fascinated with the combination of structure and freedom as well as the beauty and variety of the English country dance tune repertoire -- come share those insights and more.

Please check the description of English Dance Week at Pinewoods for details on that rich and varied program and staff.

Class Descriptions: [Back to Top]
This year's English Dance Musicians Course offers Alexander technique for physical ease with your instrument, ear training and music theory to help you understand what you hear and improvisation practice to tap into your imagination. Fill out your camp week with dancing and playing the beautiful English country dance tunes that inspire musicians and dancers alike.

Materials: [Back to Top]
We will work with tunes in The Barnes Book of English Country Dance Tunes available from the CDSS Sales Department and at the camp bookstore. Daron will supply handouts of other tunes while at camp.

Registration: [Back to Top]

The registration deadline for this course is March 20. If it is oversubscribed on the 20th, there will be a lottery. This course is limited to 15 participants to ensure plenty of opportunity for active participation. In case of over-subscription, some preference will be given to applicants from areas that are under-served with English dance musicians. Scholarships are available.
