Program Description: [Back to Top]
Look up our Special Programs for some general information; here is more detail about this particular program and staff.

This contra callers course is an intensive workshop designed for novice to intermediate callers who would like to build their skills and create supportive peer connections. Our leader, Lisa Greenleaf, has been treating dancers across the country to her concise yet witty calling for many years. Her rich repertoire, succinct teaching and commitment to community-building make her a dance camp favorite.

Class Descriptions: [Back to Top]
We will meet in the morning and start with a discussion and hands-on session to cover such topics as effective teaching, understanding choreography, programming, working with musicians, learning about the varieties of contra dance music and qualities of good leadership. The latter half of the morning will be geared towards practicing calling in a caring and constructive environment. There will also be time later in the day (4:00) to join the all-camp open mic session with staff musicians, a part of the concurrent American Dance & Music Week.

Participation is limited to eleven students, and before camp each student is expected to complete a preparatory assignment, which will be explained with the acceptance information. Homework will also be given every day, so participants should come expecting to work and play hard. It should prove to be a satisfying and rewarding experience!

Registration: [Back to Top]

The registration deadline for this course is March 20. If it is oversubscribed on the 20th, there will be a lottery. This course is limited to 11 participants to ensure plenty of opportunity for active participation. Scholarships are available.
