Country Dance and Song SocietyScholarship Information |
We are glad to be able to provide scholarship funds to those who might not otherwise be able to come to camp. We offer both work scholarships and what we call "named" scholarships. These named scholarships have been established to honor people who have made a significant contribution to country dance, music and song and to help and support the education of future musicians and leaders.
Donations to the Scholarship Funds are needed and gratefully accepted. In addition, at each week of our summer camps, we hold auctions which raise money for future scholarships.
We have adjusted the timing of the scholarship process for 2000. Scholarship applications will be considered at the time of registration and should therefore accompany your camp registration. Please note that camp applications must include a deposit to hold a space while you are being considered for a scholarship. Your deposit will be refunded in full if cancellation is necessary due to insufficient aid. Scholarship applications will be reviewed on March 27 - the registration processing date. However, applications received after that date will still be considered if there are funds available.
Most scholarships require approximately 90 minutes of work every day; at Pinewoods, as dishwasher helper, at Family Week at Buffalo Gap the work includes checking on the youngest children during the evening activities.
Work scholarships [Back to Top]
Work scholarships of 1/3 of the camper fee are available. For adults, the amount are as follows:
$152 at Campers' Week
$202 at Early Music Week
$184 at other Pinewoods and Ogontz sessions and
$191 at Buffalo Gap.
The amount for teens is slightly less (still 1/3 of the camper fee). If you are applying only for a work scholarship, fill out only questions #1-4 on the Scholarship Application Form. There are also some jobs that give larger scholarships (see question #3). Most of these jobs are assigned by February, but you may inquire for this year and for future years by checking the appropriate box in question #3.
Named Scholarships [Back to Top]
Named Scholarships are available for potential or practicing teachers, leaders, singers and musicians of English and American country dance and song. This aid is usually in addition to a work scholarship. If you are interested in applying for a named scholarship, you must answer all the questions on the Scholarship Application Form. This aid is available through the following named scholarships; please mark the scholarships that you are applying for in question #6 and describe your activities in question #10.
Ellen Bray (for our dance weeks)
Grace Feldman (for promising students of Early Music Week staff)
May Gadd (for leader/teacher of English or American dance)
Michele Godbout (for folk singer/musician)
Bob and Kathleen Hider (for English country dancers)

Application Procedure [Back to Top]
Please fill out the Scholarship Application Form and return it to CDSS with your camp registration. Applications received by March 27 will be processed first, and those applicants will be notified of their registration and scholarship status in early April. All funds may be assigned at that time, but later applications for scholarships will be considered if funds are still available.
A full refund will be given if you must cancel due to insufficient aid.
