Family Week July 31 - Aug 7, 1999

About Ogontz Camp

This summer, CDSS will add a third Family Week to our program to be held at Ogontz Camp in the White Mountains of New Hampshire. It's a new week in a new location, and we're pleased to have Robin and Andy Davis as program chairs for its premier session. The week will be July 31-August 7, the same time as Family Week at Pinewoods.

Ogontz is a beautiful 300-acre camp near Lyman, New Hampshire, located halfway between Lisbon and Littleton, three miles or so off Route 10, in the White Mountains. It had been used as a girls' camp for over 50 years, and in recent years has been dedicated to music, including being the summer home for the Chorus of Westerly (Rhode Island). We look forward to adding more music and song, dance and fun to the air.

The camp, with its own secluded lake, is surrounded by acres of pine woods and sunny open spaces. The Dining Hall has a warm rustic charm with wooden floors, a stone fireplace and windows on three sides looking out towards the lake and open grassy fields. Meals are served family style with lots of fresh bread from the large camp bakery. There is a beautiful dance hall equipped with a Steinway baby grand piano, hardwood floors, a stage and fireplace. Above the hall is a tower which overlooks the entire camp. Several nice meeting spaces can be used for our programs. The beach has plenty of shallow sandy places for younger children to play safely, as well as diving and deep swimming for older children and adults. Sailboats and canoes are available. There are also swing sets, tennis courts and a special arts and crafts room. On the grounds are hiking paths beside streams and waterfalls, and we'll all enjoy magnificent mountain views.

Ogontz is about a three hour drive from Boston, MA, and six hours from New York, NY.

Housing at Ogontz

Accommodations are rustic cabins with three open sides, one wall of storage and rolldown canvas for privacy. Each can accommodate 2-6 people dormitory-style. All have electricity. Shower rooms and toilet facilities are always nearby.

Housing is assigned in the month before camp starts, and will be assigned based on the age of the youngest family member. Each family will be assigned their own cabin.
