This camp offers a unique opportunity to have fun with your family sharing traditional English and
American dancing, singing, instrumental music, storytelling, crafts, swimming and good company in one of the
most beautiful camp settings in the world. Parents and children have joint activities as well as independent
class periods. Roving babysitters are on duty during evening activities.

Ages 2 and 3
Childcare for the 2 and 3 year olds is provided during the 9:00 and the 2:50 class periods by Kathy. It
will be a musical fun and playtime. There is no class offered during nap time after lunch.
Ages 4 and 5
You will have a morning class of dances and laughter with DeLaura and an afternoon class of crafts
and exploration with Jane. After lunch, you may choose to join Merle for some fun activities.
Ages 6 and 7
You start the day with stories, hiking, drama, nature and cooking with Merle. The afternoon class
is dancing with Marian and music by Rodney. After lunch you may choose a crafts class with Jane.
Ages 8 and 9
We are very fortunate to have the Georgia Sea Islands Singers, Frankie and Doug with us this summer.
Your morning will be filled with their Games and Songs. In the afternoon Andy will lead you through
some musical drama and dancing. For the after lunch class, you have choices listed later.
Ages 10 and up
Classes are tentative and may be altered. The 10 12 year olds this year will join the teenagers and
adults in the morning classes and in some of the afternoon classes.
Ages 10 and up -- Morning Classes (9:00-9:55)
This year, we are experimenting with two sessions of classes in order to offer a larger variety of
choices without compromising the relaxed overall schedule. This schedule allows you to taste square dancing
half the week and clog the other half.

Contras and Dances with Unusual Formations (Sun-Tues) -- Marian, Rodney and Andy
Beginning Cotswold Morris (Sun-Tues) -- Jim and John
Intermediate English Clog Dance (Sun-Tues) -- Meg
Canadian Dances (Wed-Fri) -- Marian, Rodney and Andy
Experienced Cotswold Morris (Wed-Fri) -- Jim and John
Beginning English Clog (Wed-Fri) -- Meg and Steve
"We're all full of stories" - Campers Telling Stories (Wed-Fri) -- Donald Davis
Ages 10 and up -- Afternoon Classes (2:50-3:45)
Border Morris (10 & up) -- Jim and John
Georgia Sea Island Songs and Games (10 & up) -- Frankie and Doug
English Country Dance (13 & up) -- Scott, Steve and Jonathan
Early Afternoon Classes (1:40-2:35)
After lunch is a good time for a nap. However, there are also
classes offered. Some days there may be a brief jam for less
experienced musicians led by Steve Hickman and John Roberts.

Late Afternoon (4:45-5:15)
Donald will tell a story each afternoon on the Camphouse
porch. This is a wonderful time for as many as are interested to relax
and let Donald carry you to the lands of his childhood and of "Jack."

Andy Davis
Andy is an outstanding musician on piano and accordion,
performer in the long running seasonal revue Nowell Sing We Clear, school
teacher, dance caller and favorite of children of all ages.
Donald Davis
Donald combines a multi-generational family tradition of
storytelling with a unique gift for putting the experiences of his subjects (and
his audience) in a new and better light. Donald also assimilated the
singing square dance calls of his onetime North Carolina neighbor
Otto Wood.
Merle Davis
Merle, from Ocracoke, NC is a former elementary teacher turned
full time traveler. She has become an expert on how to entertain
herself and others while on the road with her husband, Donald.
The Georgia Sea Island Singers
Frankie and Doug Quimby took Pinewoods Folk Music Week by
storm last year. African-Americans developed songs and movement games
to preserve their history and culture as they entertained themselves
in the time of slavery. This tradition has continued as community
recreation, celebration and performance in the Sea Islands of Georgia.
Steve Hickman
Steve has devoted most of his life to making great dance music on
the fiddle. In addition he is known for hambone artistry and virtuosity
on chromatic harmonica.
Scott Higgs
Scott is an English and American caller and teacher from
Philadelphia, PA. A long time Pinewoods Camp volunteer and mastermind of
the camp's computers, he is a frequent staff member at adult dance
camps. This will be his first Family Week.
Jonathan Jensen
Jonathan, bassist with the Baltimore Symphony, also plays
piano, ocarina, recorder, flute, whistle and 3hole pipe. In the
Baltimore/Washington area and at dance camps around the country he plays music
for vintage, ragtime, English country and New England dancing.
Jane Miller
Jane, creative, practical and entirely present in the presence of
children, is the founder and teacher of the Price Farm School in
Antrim, NH.
Rodney Miller
Rodney is an outstanding New England fiddler and fine violin
maker. Rodney's infectious playing has been a major force in the current
revival of contra dancing in New England and around the world.
Jim Morrison
Jim, foreman of Albemarle Morris and Old Swan Tavern Border
Morris, has been teaching morris and sword dancing, calling dances,
and playing fiddle and guitar steadily for over 25 years. He is former
director of CDSS.
Marney Morrison
Marney returns as program director, trouble shooter and
participant. She also buys (and reads) children's books and practices T'ai Chi.
DeLaura Padovan
DeLaura has in recent years started a week of traditional arts and
crafts for children, leads monthly family dances in King George, VA,
and pursues interests in child rearing, sign language interpreting and
farming.
John Roberts
John, currently from Schenectady, NY, is a music engraver, legal
alien, singer and musician. One of the finest morris musicians in
America, John is also well-known as a traditional English singer and is a
founding member of Nowell Sing We Clear.
Marian Rose
Marian, of Vancouver, British Columbia, is known for her
infectious enthusiasm throughout the dance community in western Canadia
and the Pacific Northwest. Marian specializes in calling dances for
families and working with all ages of children in schools. This will be her
first trip to Pinewoods and New England.
Meg Ryan
Meg has learned English and American clog dancing from several
old masters including Anna Marley and Pat Tracey. She performs
with Guiding Star Clog Morris and the New Dancing Marleys.
