Listen to the Band

by EFDSS Folk Shop

A tribute to the first 50 years of recorded English dance music [1920-1964] culled from the vast archives of the Vaughan Williams Memorial Library. The 52 cuts cover a fascinating variety of musical styles, including English traditional (20), Playford (15), ceremonial (7) and American (9), plus one track of Shetland marches. Performed by brass and military bands, orchestras, and fiddle and accordian bands. Not intended for dancing but rather to allow listeners to revisit the music from the past. Sound quality is as clear as the recording techniques of its day allow. 2007
